October golden hour hits different. The sun sits lower, the light goes warm and soft instead of harsh, and it lines up perfectly with fall colors already doing their thing. Rust, amber, gold. You don't have to fake a mood. It's already there. & I love the cooler air.
October light is low, warm, and directional. It wraps around people instead of just sitting on top of them. That's the whole reason golden hour has a reputation. In fall, it's just...better, and it lasts longer in that sweet spot.
In June/July, golden hour is 7:30-8pm. In October, it's more like 5:30-6:30pm.
Which means:
No pushing a toddler past their limit to catch sunset.
No overtired meltdowns right before the shot.
Home in time for dinner, bath and bed, like normal. OR early enough to grab a quick dinner before heading home.
Good light without blowing up the whole evening.
What timing looks like:
I usually start 45 minutes to an hour before sunset. As October goes on and sunset creeps earlier, we shift the start time earlier too. Good light, reasonable hour, nobody running on empty.
October books up fast between the light and peak foliage (mid-to-late October around Hendersonville). If early-evening golden hour sounds right for your family, or this season of motherhood, reach out soon so we can lock in a time that works with your actual schedule.
