We drove right onto the sand with the Zegel family, cruising down Smith Point Beach about two hours before sunset. It was the first day of summer and the weather was perfect. That kind of cool summer air that makes you want to roll the windows down and take your time getting anywhere.

We followed the shoreline all the way to Great Gun, a spot they come to often. This wasn’t a styled session. This is what they actually do together. Jack ran straight for the playground. We watched seagulls, picked up shells, wandered toward the water without really talking about it. It all felt easy.

Wooden boardwalk path stretches through tall marsh grass under blue summer sky.
Seashells and debris scattered on sandy beach with natural textures and patterns.
Child sitting at the edge of ocean water during golden sunset.

These are my favorite kinds of sessions. When a family invites me into something that’s already part of their rhythm. The pace is slower. Nothing’s forced. It’s not about chasing the perfect shot but about being there when something real happens.

If a beach session like this sounds like your kind of thing, let’s make it happen.

Long Island summers go quick and they’re meant to be remembered.
